Ziad was for many years one of the leading figures of the reformist opposition within the FPM. Ziad and his comrades aimed at transforming the FPM into a truly modern party based on democratic principles and shared governance. The battle raged since 2007 and ended in 2016 with the expulsion of Ziad Abs and an elite group of militants from the party they had founded.
